Galungan celebrates the victory of Dharma (goodness) over Adharma (evil).
The celebration is usually signified with the display of Penjors on the side of the streets. Penjor symbolises our gratitude to God for all the blessings we have received. At the end of the Penjor, you can see a decorative piece called Sampiyan. It usually contains Porosan made from areca, betel, lime and flowers.
Sampiyan itself symbolises the unification of Tri Aksara transforming into Om Kara, a sacred lettering of Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa (the God Almighty).
May we all be like Penjor, remain humble and grateful for everything that was given to us.
